We are Hiring — Staff Engineer

Job Title:                           Staff Engineer
Location:                    Reno, NV
Department:               Engineering and Technical Services
Reports To:                Engineering Manager

Purpose of Job:

Provide structural design for projects and product development. Provide engineering support for technical services and sales.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage engineering documentation and test reports
  • Create concept designs and analyses
  • Generate material bills of material (takeoffs)
  • Conduct field testing of products
  • Oversee field installation work as required
  • Assist field installers with questions and issues
  • Be an active participant in the company’s quality management system
  • Generate project estimates and budgets
  • Work with the purchasing department in the evaluation and selection of suitable materials
  • Conduct field inspections of material at vendor locations around the world
  • Support new business proposals, formal design reviews, and customer presentations
  • Review all engineering work to ensure adherence to engineering standards
  • Interface with management, suppliers, customers, and members of the technical services team
  • Support construction and engineering investigations to establish root cause and implement appropriate opportunities for improvement and corrective actions, if required
  • Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assure the design criteria have been met
  • Create illustrations for instruction manuals, testing procedures, etc.

Work Environment:

Reno, Nevada (BDI Headquarters) and travel as required

Requirements:

Education: BS degree in civil engineering (emphasis on structures preferred)

Licenses/Certifications: EIT (passing of FE Exam)

Experience:

0 to 2 years; completion of BS degree preferred, though final semester applicants (internships) will be considered with the intention of fulltime employment upon graduation.

Skills:

  • Autodesk AutoCAD
  • Structural Analysis software(Autodesk Robot preferred)
  • Autodesk 3D modeling software preferred
  • Microsoft Office Suite including advanced Excel capabilities for development of calculations for products and report generation
  • Excellent intrapersonal, written, and verbal skills

Physical Demands:

Regular travel by airplane and automobile; sitting for extended periods
