One of BDI’s newest GREs for 2024 was constructed at the Oscoda-Wurtsmith Airport (OSC) in Oscoda, Michigan. This is the third Ground Run-up Enclosure (GRE) BDI has designed in Michigan. The facility will be used for Kalitta Air, an air cargo company, for full-power engine run-up testing and maintenance efficiencies of B747 and similar size aircraft.

This GRE facility was focused on aerodynamics for appropriate air flow and the control of intense prevailing winds to ensure proper engine testing.  Standing five-stories high, the facility uses BDI’s patented Verti-Vent design, roll-top air flow, and side ventilation units to draw air into the facility ideal for engine testing. A jet blast deflector inside the GRE structure deflects the engine jet blast vertically as to not cause any damage to the structure.
