Ellsworth GS20 Jet Blast Deflector

B-1B Afterburner Bombers Tested with BDI Deflectors

Project Details

Location: Ellsworth AFB
South Dakota, USA
Project: B-1B Flightline Deflectors
Contractor: Gustafson Builders - Division of Heavy Constructors, Inc.
Owner: United States Air Force
  • Structure needed to be rated for high temperatures (780°F/415°C)
  • Tight conformance to applicable regulations

The USAF required a jet blast deflector suitable for running B-1B aircraft at full power with afterburner. BDI’s GS20 is the worldwide standard for unabated power check pads and can withstand the extreme temperatures and velocities of this application. All B-1B bases are equipped with multiple GS20 blast deflectors by BDI, typically one at each parking position.
