Boeing Compass Calibration Area Requires Non-Ferrous JBD

Project Details

Location: Snohomish County Airport/Paine Field
Everett, USA
Project: 2008 Flightline Expansion
Owner: Boeing
Challenges:
  • Challenging site geometry
  • Tight conformance to applicable regulations
  • Very short lead-time to perform the design and delivery

Boeing’s compass calibration area required a jet blast deflector to allow engine run-ups to be carried out safely. The challenge was that the deflector also needed to be nonferrous. BDI’s solution was to offer an aluminum version of its U-Series deflector, which is rated for full power velocities of all Boeing aircraft. Other blast deflector materials offered by BDI include galvanized steel, stainless steel, Galvalume, aluminized steel, and fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP).
