Winnipeg Ground Run-up Enclosure

Ice Testing Facility Gets BDI Acoustic Enclosure

Project Details

Location: Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport
Winnipeg, Canada
Project: Noise Suppression Facility
Owner: StandardAero Limited
Challenges:
  • Cold-weather anchor installation
  • Tight conformance to applicable regulations
  • Challenging aerodynamics

Standard Aero required an acoustic enclosure and augmenter tube for endurance testing GE90 aircraft engines, the largest, most powerful commercial aircraft engines ever produced. Engines are mounted on a test stand and run for extended periods during cold-weather testing (icing simulations). The BDI additions to the facility include the design of an augmenter tube and stack and the design and supply of Stabile-Flow aerodynamic features for safely and quietly redirecting high-velocity exhaust out of the facility.
