JFK Terminal Roadway Protected by a Tall, Slender Blast Fence

Project Details

Location: John F. Kennedy International Airport
New York, USA
Project: Terminal 4, Modification of Gates 3 & 5
Contractor: VRH Construction Corp.
Owner: Port Authority of NY & NJ
Challenges:
  • Challenging site geometry
  • Tight conformance to applicable regulations

A 30-foot (10-meter) tall blast fence was required to protect an elevated roadway providing access to a terminal. Due to the limited space available for the structure and the required ADG VI (Code F) wingtip clearance, a unique design was required. BDI’s design and engineering team produced a custom solution that met all of the project requirements.
